A Message from Philip Niedermair, CEO of NCG:

The scope of the Cyber Security challenge is immense, made even more challenging by the lack of trained people, and no current pipeline or method to meet future needs at scale. A national program to build a team of Cyber Professionals who are prepared to meet the needs of our government, defense community and the private sector is critical. From an education standpoint there is a shortage of accessible cybersecurity curriculum and educators capable of delivering such important content.

The National Cyber Group, and its public/private partners, are working to solve for that challenge. The National Cyber Education Program is a multipart K-12 education initiative designed to address our nation's critical workforce gap in cyber security. The initiative is in partnership with Discovery Education which currently serves 30 million k-12 students and 3 million teachers through its online education platform.

The initiative includes:

Core curricular cyber content for grades K-12

Virtual Professional Development that improves educator abilities in delivering STEM and Cybersecurity content co-curricularly.

Transformative learning tools and curriculum for students that empower them to understand and solve tomorrow’s defining challenges (cybersecurity and beyond) via Discovery Education’s STEM Connect program

A careers portal connecting students to cybersecurity opportunities in government and industry.

Regional conferences connecting guidance counselors, educators and industry professionals

Tools for cybersecurity industry partners to engage in their school communities through volunteerism & mentorship

The National Cyber Education Program rests on 4 main pillars:

1. Core Curriculum.

The definitive library of vetted, national standards-aligned resources will equip K-12 educators to bring cyber education into their schools.  The curriculum will be available to all schools at no charge and delivered through the Discovery Education platform currently utilized by more than 30 million students in the US.

2. Career Discovery Tools.

A dynamic web-based platform will empower students to connect their skills and passions to real-world cybersecurity opportunities.   Tools include a careers portal with career vignettes, training, internship and careers opportunities.

3. Professional development

A suite of “virtual" professional development tools will be available to all educators as well as annual regional conferences bringing together public/private sector experts, educators and guidance counselors.

4. Expert Advisory Council

The world’s top cybersecurity experts will provide advice and recommendations as the program evolves as well as connectivity for career opportunities and guidance.
